Mocs Host Two Matches on Saturday

UTC welcomes North Alabama (1pm) and Covenant (6pm) to the Racquet Club.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team hosts a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 18.  The Mocs welcome North Alabama and Covenant College in non-conference action this weekend.

The match against the Lions starts at 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) at the Racquet Club in Hixson.  UTC then faces the Scots at 6:00 p.m., also at the Racquet Club.  Links for live scoring for both matches is available on the men's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.

"We are excited about the opportunity to have a full day of action at Coachworks at the Club," stated UTC head coach Carlos Garcia.  "Both North Alabama and Covenant College bring different challenges, so our plan all week is focusing on solid starts in our doubles and keeping the momentum through singles."

Chattanooga is 1-6 overall, with their lone win coming against defending OVC champion Tennessee Tech on Feb. 3.  UNA is 1-1 with a 5-2 loss at UAB and a 7-2 win over Martin Methodist.  The Lions compete in the NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference.  They will begin transitioning into the NCAA Division I Atlantic Sun Conference in the fall of 2018.

The Mocs are 9-1 in the series with North Alabama.  These two teams have met each of the last six seasons, and UNA pulled out a 4-2 win in last year's meeting on Feb. 20.  Only singles were played in that match.

Covenant is also 1-1, including an 8-1 loss at Birmingham Southern on Feb. 11.  The lone victory on the slate came in the fall against Milligan College (7-2).  Covenant competes in the NCAA Division III USA South Conference.

The Mocs are 4-0 all-time against Covenant, including last year's 7-0 win on Feb. 6.  The other three meeting were in the late 1980s.
