CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs softball team earned a split for the second straight day of the Frost Classic after they fell to Western Michigan 4-2 and defeated UT Martin 6-3 in a Saturday doubleheader at Frost Stadium.

With the split, the Mocs are now 5-8 on the season. The loss for UT Martin was only their second of the season as they fell to 10-2 and Western Michigan improved to 5-5.

Chattanooga will conclude the Frost Classic tomorrow with a 12:30 p.m. matchup against Saint Louis. The Billikins are coming off a 20-7 victory over Northwestern State.

The Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after a walk and wild pitch placed the runner on second with one out and later scored on a dropped fly ball in left field for an unearned run.

The Mocs answered with two runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead after a Hayleigh Weissenbach walk began the inning and was advanced to second on a J.J. Hamill sacrifice bunt. Weissenbach scored on an Aly Walker RBI double to left-center and Walker scored a batter later on an Ashley Conner RBI double. Western Michigan tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fourth on a Moc throwing error.

The game would remained tied until the top of the seventh when the Broncos broke the tie with a solo homerun to right field and later scored an insurance run on a fielding error, giving WMU a two run lead and ultimately the 4-2 win.

Everyone in the Mocs starting lineup recorded one hit while Hamill was the only one to record two. Walker and Conner recorded both RBIs on back-to-back doubles. Payten Price (3-6) took the loss in relief of Alex Connell as she went 2.0 innings, allowing one hit, two runs (one earned) and struck out a batter. Connell tossed 5.0 innings and gave up four hits, two runs (one earned) and also struck out a batter.

The Mocs came out of the gate early and scored four runs in the first two innings to jump out to a 4-0 lead. In the first inning, Weissenbach led off the first inning with a single and advanced to second on a Hamill sacrifice bunt. Walker followed the bunt up with an RBI single and later scored on a Brook Womack RBI ground out to give UTC a 2-0 lead.

The second inning started off with a Halie Williamson walk and she came all the way around the bases to score after a fielder's choice, hit by pitch and a Conner RBI single. The Mocs would score the second run of the inning with a Stockard RBI single to left field and extended the lead to 4-0.

The Skyhawks got back in the game with runs in the third and fourth inning to cut the Mocs lead to 4-2 before UTC added a run in the bottom of the fourth on a Conner RBI single up the middle to make it 5-2. Chattanooga added their sixth run in the bottom of the fifth as Weissenbach drove home Womack on an RBI single.

 Maddy Adams (1-0) came in relief of Price and earned her first career win by tossing 3.0 innings giving up four hits and only one earned run. Connell earned the save (3) as she inherited two base runners and the tying run at the plate with no outs in the final frame and retired UT Martin hitters 1-2-3 to end the game.

Conner went a perfect 4-for-4 in the win and recorded two RBIs as two other Mocs also recorded multi-hit games. Weissenbach went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI and Walker was 2-for-3 with a run scored and RBI. Hamill, Stockard, Womack and Katy Richardson each registered a hit as Stockard and Womack added an RBI.

- Ashley Conner went 5-for-7 on Saturday with a 2B and three RBIs ... she raised her batting average to a team-best .474 (18-for-38) ... leads team with 18 hits, 12 RBIs, four HRs, 33 total bases, .868 slugging percentage and .543 on-base percentage.
- J.J. Hamill went 3-for-5 with a run scored ... raised her average to .317 (13-for-41) ... perfect 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts.
- Aly Walker was 3-for-6 with a 2B, two runs scored and two RBIs ... second on team with .378 batting average (14-for-37), 14 hits and eight RBIs.
- Hayleigh Weissenbach was 3-for-7 on Saturday with an RBI and three runs scored ... she now leads the team with 11 runs.
- Maddy Adams picks up first career win in the circle ... tossed 3.0 innings and allowing on four hits and one earned run.
- Payten Price has now thrown 49.1 innings and carries 3.41 ERA ... 36 strikeouts.
- Alex Connell picked up SoCon best third save of the season ... lowered ERA to 4.91.
