CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs softball team earned a split on Friday afternoon after registering a 6-3 win over Robert Morris before dropping a tough 8-0 decision to North Carolina at the Holy City Showdown in Charleston, S.C.
The Mocs are now 7-14 on the season. They'll play another two games tomorrow with matchups against UMass-Lowell and tournament-host College of Charleston.

For the thirteenth time in nineteen games this season, the Mocs have surrendered runs in the first inning to the opposition and found themselves in a hole as they allowed two RMU runs by way of a two-run single.
Down 2-0, the Mocs responded with four of their own in the home half of the first as
Jesslyn Stockard smacked a grand-slam, her third homer of the season, to give UTC a 4-2 lead. The Colonials would add a run in the top of the third to cut the Mocs lead to 4-3.
Chattanooga would pick up two insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth as
Brook Womack doubled home a run and
Katy Richardson scored on a throwing error to extend a 6-3 lead which would be an eventual final.
Payten Price (5-10) earned the win in the circle by throwing her seventh complete game of the season, going all 7.0 innings, allowing 13 hits, three runs (all earned) while striking out six.
Everyone in the Mocs starting lineup registered at least as a hit as
J.J. Hamill led the way with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Stockard went 2-for-3 with four RBIs, all coming on her grand-slam in the first inning. Womack registered the other RBI with a double and went 1-for-3 in the win.

The Tar Heels opened up the scoring in the top of the third inning on a sacrifice fly to center field with one out and took a 1-0 lead. The Mocs threatened in the bottom half as
Hayleigh Weissenbach tripled to right-center with one out, but failed to cross the plate after a ground-out and fly-out ended the inning.
UNC added another run in the top of the fourth on a solo homerun to left field to move the Tar Heel lead to 2-0. Three more runs came North Carolina's way in the top of the fifth as Kendra Lynch belted a three-run homer over the center field wall to extend the lead to 5-0. The Tar Heels scored one in the sixth and two in the seventh to push their lead to 8-0, and that would be the final score.
Alex Connell (1-4) took the loss for the Mocs as she threw 5.0 innings, allowing six hits, five runs (all earned) while striking out one and walking three.
Maddy Adams pitched 1.2 innings of relief allowing four hits and three runs (all earned) while newcomer
Hanna Dennis threw the remaining 0.1 inning allowing one hit.
Weissenbach led the Mocs offense as she went 2-for-3 including a triple to the right-center gap in the third inning.
Aly Walker, Stockard and Richardson each collected a hit a piece to round out the offense for Chattanooga.
