NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs softball team ended their 19-game road trip on a high note as they defeated Tennessee State, 6-5, in Nashville on Wednesday evening.
With the win, the Mocs improve to 11-22 (1-2 SoCon) overall. Chattanooga is set to host Samford this weekend in a three-game series at Frost Stadium with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday at 2 p.m.

The Mocs started a rally in the top of the third as
Halie Williamson was hit by a pitch and later advanced to third on a single from
J.J. Hamill following a sacrifice bunt from
Hayleigh Weissenbach. Williamson scored on an
Aly Walker single up the middle to give Chattanooga a 1-0 lead. The Tigers answered in the bottom half of the inning with a run scoring on a fielder's choice and tied the game at 1-1.
The Mocs regained the lead in the top of the sixth when
Katy Richardson smacked an RBI double to right field, scoring Walker from second and breaking the tie. Walker turned to the defensive side in the home half as she gunned out the would-be tying run at the plate from right-center to end the inning and protect the 2-1 lead.
Chattanooga exploded for four runs in the top of the seventh on the help of five hits (four doubles) as Hamill, Walker and
Jesslyn Stockard (2) all picked up RBIs to extend the lead to 6-1.
The Tigers made a late push in the bottom of the seventh as they scored four runs on the help of four hits and three Mocs errors before
Celie Hudson struck out a batter with the bases loaded to end the game, earning a 6-5 victory.
Hudson (2-1) earned the win for Chattanooga as she tossed 6.1 innings and allowed seven hits, four runs (three earned) while registering five strikeouts.
Alex Connell came in relief of Hudson when things got dicey in the seventh and recorded two outs before Hudson re-entered and recorded the final out.
Walker led the Mocs offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate and posted a pair of RBIs and runs scored. Hamill, Stockard and Richardson all went 2-for-4 with a combined four RBIs and two doubles.
