Chattanooga (14-36, 4-14 SoCon) is the No. 7 seed and will face No. 2 seed and regular season SoCon Co-Champs Furman (31-21, 11-6 SoCon) at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The tournament opens up at 10 a.m. with a 4/5 matchup between Samford and Mercer. The championship game on Saturday, May 13, will be broadcasted LIVE on ESPN3 and through the WatchESPN app. The champion will receive the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
The Mocs recently closed out the regular season with a three-game series at Furman on Thursday and Friday. While the Paladins swept the doubleheader on Thursday by a combined three runs, Chattanooga claimed a 2-1 victory on Friday. The win on Friday halted Furman from winning the Southern Conference regular season title outright and earning the No. 1 seed.
Aly Walker finished the 2017 regular season with a team-best .329 batting average which was the top mark among all freshmen in the SoCon and eighth best overall.
Hayleigh Weissenbach finished right behind her with a .320 average, the second-best mark among all freshmen.
Jesslyn Stockard set a new Southern Conference record on defense as she yielded a perfect 1.000% fielding percentage in 42 games played at first base. Stockard was 291-for-291 in total chances and is the only student-athlete in SoCon history to remain error-free with more than 260 total chances.
Celie Hudson tossed a complete game in Friday's win, allowing only three hits and an unearned run while striking out five. She threw in game one of the series against Furman and went all six innings, surrendering only three hits and two earned runs while striking out six.
