Soccer Opens SoCon Slate Friday at ETSU, Sunday at WCU

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team opens Southern Conference action Friday night at East Tennessee State and then Sunday at Western Carolina.
 
Friday's game will kick off at 7 p.m. at the Summers-Taylor Stadium. There will be live scoring for the match but no streaming video. Sunday's match at Western Carolina begins at 2 p.m. at the Catamount Athletic Complex. The game will air live on the SoCon Digital Network and live scoring links will be available at GoMocs.com.

AST TIME OUT
The Mocs fell 2-0 to #19 Alabama in Tuscaloosa on two early goals by the Tide. The Mocs' defense stepped up the remainder of the way, not allowing another score while its offense created many chances but could not capitalize. Of the Mocs five shots, three were on goal. The Tide got off 24 shots with just seven on goal. Melia Correa made five saves in the match.
 
ABOUT THE MOCS (2-5-2, 0-0 SoCon)
After winning its season opener against Austin Peay, the Mocs have had to dig deep for their second win. It came on the road at Alabama A&M. Along with the pair of wins, the Mocs have two ties.
 
Chattanooga has seven goals on the season on 78 shots for a 0.78 goals per game percentage. The Mocs have 42 shots on goal for a .538 shots on goal percentage and average 8.7 shots per game. UTC is 1-for-1 on penalty kicks while opponents have just one of 2. The Mocs have allowed 16 goals (1.78/game) on 163 shots.
 
Jordan Mueller leads the team with eight points, making three goals and assisting on two game winners. Catherine Meyer has two goals, both game winners, after sitting out her freshman season with a knee injury last year. Freshman Chloe Arnold is 1-of-1 on penalty kicks and second on the team with two goals.
 
Sophomore keeper Melia Correa has started six games for Chattanooga. She has 41 saves in 580 minutes in goal for a .774 saves percentage. She has allowed 12 goals for a 1.86 goals against average.
 
ABOUT THE BUCS (2-6-0)
The Bucs started the season with a strong 8-0 shutout of South Carolina State. Their second win was a 2-0 shutout against former SoCon opponent Davidson. The next four matches were all losses with ETSU scoring one goal in each.
 
Eleonora Goldoni leads the team with six goals on the year and a team-high 14 points. She is ranked second in the league in both points and goals scored. Pauline Vienne, second on the team with 11 points and four goals is ranked fifth in the SoCon in both.  Three keepers have shared time in the net with Lea Ann Cutshall playing in six games with 38 saves (.776) and 11 goals against. She has a 1-3-0 record with a shutout.
 
MOCS vs. BUCS
Chattanooga is 6-4-2 all-time against ETSU but just 2-3 on the road. In the last road contest, UTC won 3-1 and last year's match at Finley Stadium ended in a 2-2 tie.
 
ABOUT THE CATAMOUNTS (3-5-1)
Western Carolina started the season with a 3-1 win over Morehead State and have won two of its last three matches, beating UT Martin 3-2 and Campbell 4-3 while falling 1-0 at #25 NC State on the road.
 
Megan McCallister, ranked fifth in the SoCon for both goals and points leads the Catamounts with 11 points and four goals. Emily Threat has three goals for the Cats while Sayres McKenna's two goals have both been game winners.
 
Jacquelyn Gnassi has started five of her six matches in goal for WCU. She has 26 saves (.788) and 7 goals against (1.55) while Icen Natalia, with three starts in six matches, has allowed 10 goals (2.08) and made 24 saves (.706). She has two of the three team wins as well as three losses and one tie.
 
MOCS vs. CATAMOUNTS
Western Carolina holds an 11-4-3 advantage over the Mocs since the two first started competing  in 1999. After falling in four straight of the last five, UTC came away with a 1-0 victory at Finley Stadium last year.
