CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team earned a 3-0 (25-17, 29-27, 25-22) sweep over The Citadel in the first leg of the South Carolina double-header on Friday evening.

With the win, the Mocs improve to 9-8 overall and 2-1 in the Southern Conference. The Citadel falls to 6-14 and 1-3 in the SoCon.

The Mocs controlled the first set as they hit for a .184 percentage while holding the opposition to .000. Chattanooga would also hold The Citadel to a low .045 percentage in the second and .048 in the third, totaling .032 for the match.

The Citadel won in the blocking column, out-blocking Chattanooga 12.5 to 7.0. The Mocs would register more kills (41-32), digs (59-52) and assists (40-25).

1st Set | UTC 25, CIT 17
After beginning the match in a back-and-forth style with scores being tied eight different times in the first 24 points, ultimately coming to a 12-12 knot, the Mocs started a hot run and controlled the latter half of the set. With a 13-12 advantage for UTC, the Mocs went on a rip by way of a 9-2 run to build a 22-14 lead. They would finish off the set, 25-17, with a kill from
Ally Ford and forcing two Bulldogs attacking errors.
2nd Set | UTC 29, CIT 27
The Mocs jumped out of the gate early by building a 6-3 lead. UTC would eventually extend the lead to 13-8 before The Citadel responded with five-straight to tie the set at 13-13. Both teams would go back-and-forth until the Bulldogs forced a set point at 24-23. The Mocs would fend off the set point with two-straight points to create their own chance at a set win with a 25-24 lead. A Mocs attacking error tied things up again at 25-25 before both teams traded the next four points for a 27-27 tie. An
Ally Ford kill and an attacking error from The Citadel clinched a 29-27 set win for Chattanooga and gave the Mocs a 2-0 lead in the match.

3rd Set | UTC 25, CIT 22
In a must-win set, the Bulldogs came out firing with three-straight blocks in the midst of a 5-0 run to begin the set. The Citadel extended out to a 9-3 lead before Chattanooga rallied on a 9-3 run of their own to tie things up at 12-12. Similar to the first two sets, it went back-and-forth all the way to a 22-22 tie before the Mocs pulled away. Two kills from Ford and a kill from
