Monica San Juan paced the Chattanooga Mocs at the Cardinal Classic Saturday.

LOUISVILLE---The Chattanooga Mocs were in a tie for 12th after 18 holes of the opening round of the Cardinal Classic. They shot 316 over the opening 18 but were not able to complete the day's second 18 because of darkness.

Monica San Juan led the way with 3-over 75. She ended the day almost like she started. San Juan opened play in the shotgun start with a birdie on the par 3 eighth. She recorded her second on her 17th hole, the par 4 sixth.

The 316 was supported by Maddy McDanel (78), Rheagan Hall (81) and Dorota Zalewska (82) on a blustery day. Michaela Kulhankova (83) had the drop score, while individual Kirsty Beckwith turned in 81.

Illinois leads with 285. That was six better than host Louisville. The Cardinals Mairead Martin is the early leader at 2 under.

The field completes their final hole(s) at 11:15 a.m., with the final round slated to begin at 11:45 a.m.

3 NOTES TO KNOW

San Juan is tied for 15th heading into the final holes per Golfstat live scoring. She's efforting toward back-to-back top 10s and potentially the eighth of her career.
McDanel continued a run of seven straight cards without a score higher than bogey in the first round. Her triple on the par 4 14th ended a string of 141 holes in a row without an other.
Beckwith ended the second 18 with a season-best 75 matching San Juan for best 18 of the day by a Moc.
