Soccer Hosts VMI in SoCon First Round

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team will host its second Southern Conference Tournament match Wednesday night. The Mocs will take on 10th seeded VMI in the opening round of the league tournament.

Chattanooga closed out the season at 8-7-3 on the year, its first winning record since 2004 when UTC was 12-5-1 and placed fourth in the conference standings. The Mocs closed out SoCon play with a 4-3-2 record and tied with Mercer for sixth in the standings, one point out of third. By virtue of the tie break rules, the Mocs became the seventh seed. ETSU, Western Carolina and Furman all tied for third.

The Mocs and VMI met in the season finale in Virginia and finished with a double-overtime tie. After the Keydets scored two early goals, the Mocs responded with a pair of their own to tie the match before halftime. It became a defensive battle after that. The Mocs peppered the VMI keeper throughout the rest of the contest and had six shots on goal in the two overtime periods but were denied the game winner.

The match is set to kick off at 6:00 p.m. The South Gate will open one hour prior and admission is free. If you can't make the match, follow the action online at GoMocs.com. Live scoring and streaming video, at no cost, will be available on the Mocs soccer schedule page.
