Maddy McDanel’s career-low 68 led the Chattanooga Mocs today at the Princess Anne Invitational.

VIRGINIA BEACH---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team is tied for seventh after 18 holes at the Princess Anne Invitational. The Mocs season-low 295 at Princess Anne Country Club was matched by Marshall.

Maddy McDanel led the way with a career-best 68. Her 2-under total included four birdies, 12 pars and just two bogeys. She was 1 over through six holes before back-to-back birdies at 16 and 17 got the Pittsburgh-area native into red numbers.

She turned at 1 under birdieing one and five to reach 3 under. A bogey at eight settled her final tally at -2. That was supported by Monica San Juan's 72, Rheagan Hall at 75 and Esme Hamilton with 80. Dorota Zalewska's 83 was the drop score as Michaela Kulhankova turned in 74 playing as an individual.

McDanel is tied for third, three off the pace set by Maryland individual Virunpat Olankitkunchai. She shot 5-under 65, two ahead of UCF's Elizabeth Moon at 67. UCF and Campbell are tied for the team lead at 284 followed closely by the Terps with 285.

The Mocs and Thundering Herd are three behind the fifth-place duo of Old Dominion and Xavier at 292. South Florida is in ninth with 297 as Princeton sits in 10th at 298.

McDanel's 68 is the lowest score by a Moc since San Juan's 5-under 67 in the second round of the Moon Golf Invite in February. It ties for the seventh-best number in school history with San Juan, Emily McLennan '16, Christine Wolf '11 and Emma de Groot '11. McLennan (4) and de Groot (2) shot the number multiple times.
San Juan's 72 marks the 19th time in her career she's posted 72 or better in a round.
Nine birdies on the counting cards is the second-highest total for a round in 2018-19 behind 11 in the opening 18 at the Mason Rudolph Championships.
