Monica San Juan tied her career-low 18-hole tally with a 67 today at the Princess Anne Invitational.

VIRGINIA BEACH---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team looked at yesterday's 18 which featured new season lows for team and individual 18-hole score and decided to top it. They shot 289, a six-shot improvement, led by Monica San Juan's career-best-tying 67.

San Juan's card included five birdies, also tying her 18-hole best, 11 pars and two bogeys. It started innocent enough playing level through her first 10 stops. She birdies two and five before a bogey on the par 5 sixth. Back-to-back birdies followed to get by to 3 under for the day.

That 67 was joined by 72 from Maddy McDanel, 74 by Rheagan Hall and Dorota Zalewska's 76 for the 289 tally. Esme Hamilton had the drop score of 81 with Michaela Kulhankova turning in 76 as an individual. The 289 is the best team total since that same number on Sept. 23, 2017 at the Lady Paladin Invitational.

San Juan jumped 15 spots on the leaderboard into third at 1 under. She's three off the lead held by Maryland's Virunpat Olankitkunchai who is 4 under playing as an individual. UCF's Elizabeth Moon is second at -2. McDanel is one of five tied for fourth with even-par 140.

Sacramento State jumped from fourth to first with 287 today, 573 overall. Campbell and UCF are tied for second at 575. Live scoring and pairings are linked above.

San Juan's 67 not only ties her career best, it also ties for the second-best 18 in program history. That's one behind Ladies European Tour stalwart Christine Wolf's '11 66 at the 2011 JMU Eagle Landing Invite. It also pushed teammate Maddy McDanel's opening round 68 into a tie for eighth.
San Juan (139) and McDanel (140) posted new 36-hole career bests. San Juan's previous was 141 at the 2018 Moon Golf Invite, while McDanel bettered hers by six shots. That came two weeks ago at the Mason Rudolph Championships.
San Juan and McDanel are tied for the tournament lead in par 4 scoring at 3.81 (-3).
