Maddy McDanel turned in the second-best score in Chattanooga Mocs program history leading her squad at Old Dominion’s Princess Anne Invitational.

VIRGINIA BEACH---Top 10s for Maddy McDanel and Monica San Juan led the Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Princess Anne Invitational. It was a special scoring weekend for the duo as the team shot a season-best 873.

McDanel's 208 (-2) is not only the best of her career, but it's also the second-lowest total at UTC behind Emily McLennan's 11-under 205 winning the 2015 Fall Invitational. The total bested her previous low by 12 shots.

Today's final round 289 was led by McDanel with 68. Rheagan Hall added a season-low 72 followed by San Juan and Dorota Zalewska with 73 and 76, respectively. Esme Hamilton had the drop score with 78, while Michaela Kulhankova completed her collegiate debut with 74 playing as an individual.

McDanel got her first career top 5 finishing tied for third at 2 under. San Juan also perched in top 10 tying for eight with a career-low 212. Hall posted her first top 30 tying for 28th at 221, her low number in just her third collegiate start.

UCF captured the team title at 857. That was four ahead of Campbell in second and six clear of host Old Dominion. Second-round leader Sacramento State (866) was fourth followed by Maryland (871) and Chattanooga. Xavier (876) was seventh and South Florida (880) eighth.

UCF's Elizabeth Moon was medalist. Her final tally of 65 gave her a three-shot win at 7-under 203. Maryland individual Virunpat Olankitkunchai was runner-up at 4 under ahead of McDanel and Campbell's Emily Hawkins in third at 208.

The Mocs 873 total is the best for the program since 863 at the 2015 Pinehurst Challenge. San Juan shot her previous low of 213 leading the group. The 873 this week is the fifth-best total in school history.

3 NOTES TO KNOW

McDanel shot new career bests for 18 (68 in rounds 1 & 3), 36 (140) and 54-hole (208) scores. Career-high 11 birdies for the tournament as well as on a single card with five today. San Juan also tied or bested her prior low marks for 18 (67), 36 (139) and 54 holes (212).
Those 11 birdies tied for the fifth-most among the tourney entries, while Hall's 38 pars tied for seventh. McDanel and Moon tied for best par 4 score at -4 (3.83).
Kulhankova had seven birdies ranking third among the Mocs contingent behind McDanel and San Juan (9).
