University of Tennessee at Chattanooga volleyball sophomore
Megan Kaufman was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District® III First Team, selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), for her stellar work inside the classroom.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District® Volleyball Team program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes volleyball honorees in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First team Academic All-District® recipients advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First, second and third team (if applicable) honorees will be announced in early December.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must contribute on the court, carry a 3.3 grade-point-average and be in at least the third semester of academics at their respective institution.
A Liberty Twp., Ohio native, Kaufman holds a perfect 4.0 GPA as a Nursing major at UTC. She leads the team this season with 305 total digs and carries a team-best 3.35 digs per set average, which ranks ninth in the Southern Conference.
"During the recruiting process, being an outstanding student first and an outstanding athlete second, is one of the most important traits we evaluate kids on," head coach
Travis Filar stated. "Megan embodies that and she has for her entire academic career in high school and here at Chattanooga, not because that's what has been expected of her, but because of how driven she is, how great she wants to be in all she does,.
"The most impressive thing about it all, is that she takes no days off in the classroom or on the court. I am so proud of her and this recognition is well deserved."
Kaufman is the first Moc to receive the all-district volleyball honor since Sarah Batterton in 2015. She is also one of only 25 student-athletes on the all-district teams to carry a 4.0 or better GPA.
