Mocs Offense Limited in 3-0 Loss at Mercer

Chattanooga volleyball totaled a season-low 21 kills and attacked at a .046 percentage in Friday’s road loss at Mercer.

MACON, Ga. --- The Chattanooga Mocs (8-18, 4-9 SoCon) volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-17, 25-11, 25-20) sweep to the hands of the Mercer Bears (13-11, 6-7 SoCon) on Friday evening inside Hawkins Arena in Macon, Ga.
 
Chattanooga now falls to 8-18 overall and 4-9 in the SoCon with three matches remaining before the league tournament. Mercer improves to 13-11 overall and 6-7 in the conference.
 
UTC and Mercer have split the season series for the third time in the last five seasons. The Mocs earned a clean 3-0 sweep over the Bears back on October 6 inside Maclellan Gymnasium.

Mercer set the tone of the match early, claiming a 25-17 win in the first on the help of seven-straight points before rolling to a 25-11 victory in the second to take a 2-0 lead. The Bears would put the match away in the third with a 25-20 decision, finishing with four-straight points to earn the 3-0 sweep.
 
Chattanooga was limited to a season-low 21 kills, which ties for the lowest total in a match since early in the 2010 season. In addition, Mercer held the Mocs to a season second-lowest .042 hitting percentage. Defensively, the team finished with 6.0 team blocks and 38 digs.
 
Mikaela Gauthreaux paced UTC on offense with team-highs in kills (6) and attacking percentage (.417) while adding a pair of block assists to total seven points. Jaquelyn Langhaim followed with a versatile stat line of five kills (.235), 12 assists, six digs and two block assists.
 
Dani Szczepanski led the team with four block assists while adding a pair of kills and three service aces. Brianna Anderson provided three kills and an ace while Nan Parrish laid down two kills in her collegiate debut.
 
On the defensive side, Brenna Everingham posted 10 digs to finish in double digits for the third-straight match. Miranda Elpers followed with six and Megan Kaufman with five in the defeat.
