CHICAGO, Ill. --- Former UTC softball head coach Karen Weekly was one of three inductees into this year's National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Hall of Fame class last Friday evening at the Sheraton Grand Chicago.
In addition to Weekly, the fellow 2018 HOF class individuals were Margie Knight (Salisbury University) and the late Mike Lambros (North Davidson High School). All three inductees have made their mark in the sport of softball as highly successful coaches.
Karen Weekly, a 22-year collegiate softball coach, is currently at the helm of the University of Tennessee softball program. She has amassed 1,073 career wins in two coaching stints at Chattanooga (1999-2001) and Tennessee (2002-present).
Weekly took the role as the head coach for the Mocs in 1999 and 2000 while performing as the co-head coach in 2001. She recorded 144 wins in those three seasons and finished with a 144-67 (.696) record in Chattanooga. UTC captured Southern Conference titles and made appearances in the NCAA Regionals in both 2000 and 2001.
Serving as co-head coach since 2002 alongside her husband Ralph Weekly, a 2011 NFCA HOF inductee, she has compiled a stellar record of 850-259-2 (.765) in Knoxville. Weekly has helped lead the Lady Vols to seven Women's College World Series appearances, including a pair of national runner-up finishes in 2007 and 2013.
Adding to that already impressive resume, Tennessee has captured 10 NCAA Regional championships, seven NCAA Super Regional championships, two SEC Tournament championships (2006 & 2011) and an SEC Regular Season title (2007) during her tenure.
Under her guidance, UT was the first SEC team to reach No. 1 in the polls and make an appearance in the WCWS (both in 2007). She has produced 76 All-SEC selections, 35 NFCA All-Americans and five SEC Players of the Year.
