Mocs Face Kentucky and Belmont on the Road

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team hits the road this weekend for matches at Kentucky and Belmont.  The Mocs face the Wildcats on Friday, Feb. 2, followed by a dual against the Bruins on Saturday.

"We are looking forward to another tough road trip with matches against a strong SEC school in Kentucky, and in-state foe Belmont," stated first-year Mocs head coach Chuck Merzbacher. Chattanooga is 2-3, with wins over Lee (7-0) and Austin Peay (5-2).

"The entire team is playing well, and getting better with each match. This group thrives on the team tennis environment and you can tell they really enjoy playing together."

UTC's match in Lexington, Ky., is set for a 10:00 a.m. (E.S.T.) first-serve at the Boone Tennis Center.  The Wildcats are 3-2 overall.  This is UTC's first trip to Kentucky since a 5-4 win in the 1978 season.

The Bruins are 1-4 and host Kennesaw State on Friday before facing the Mocs on Saturday.  Match time is 5:00 p.m. at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, Tenn.

The Mocs are 6-6 all-time against Belmont, including four-straight losses in the series.  UTC dropped last year's meeting 5-2 at McCallie on Jan. 29, 2017.  Sophomores Niklas Gerdes and Simon Bustamante won in singles action at No. 1 and No. 4.
