The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team hosts The Citadel on Friday, Feb. 23, for the first Southern Conference match of the season. The Mocs take on the Bulldogs at 2:30 p.m. (E.S.T.) at The Champions Club in Chattanooga.

The Mocs are 4-5 overall, including wins over North Alabama (6-1) and Tennessee Wesleyan (5-2) in their last outing on Feb. 10. Sophomore
Niklas Gerdes leads the way with a 5-3 record at No. 1. He and fellow sophomore,
Simon Bustamante, have a 4-3 mark at No. 1 doubles.
"This is an important match for us as we open up SoCon play," stated UTC head coach
Chuck Merzbacher. "We want to set the tone as we head into outdoor play and the main part of our spring season. The team is expecting a tough match with The Citadel."
The Bulldogs are 5-10 overall, including wins in five of their last seven matches. The Citadel lost to Furman (6-1) in its SoCon opener last weekend in Greenville, S.C., last weekend.
UTC holds a 30-5 all-time advantage over The Citadel. However, the Bulldogs won last year's meeting 4-3 in Charleston on March 15. UTC has never lost a home match to The Citadel, holding a 15-0 lead in matches played in the Scenic City.
