After playing 10-straight matches on the road, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team closes out the regular season at home this week. The Mocs host Samford and UNCG in their final two home matches before the Southern Conference Tournament.
The Bulldogs come to Chattanooga for a mid-week match on Wednesday, April 11, at 3:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) at the Champions Club. The Mocs then host the Spartans on Saturday, April 14, at Noon at the Champions Club. Links for live scoring of both matches are available on the men's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
"After being on the road quite a bit this season, over 7200 miles of travel, this young team is so thankful to be home for the remainder of the regular season and of course, hosting the SoCon Tournament," stated head coach
Chuck Merzbacher.
"Our last two conference matches are super important for gaining the best seed possible for the tourney. Both matches, Samford and UNCG, will be held at Champions Club, also the host venue for the SoCon Tournament. This team has accepted every challenge thrown at them this season and I am confident they will finish strong here at home."
The Mocs are 8-13 overall and 1-4 in SoCon matches. The eight wins are the most for UTC since posting 14 in 2012. Sophomore
Niklas Gerdes leads the team with 16 singles wins. He is 9-10 at No. 1 in the spring. Freshman
Luke Plaisted is second on the team with a 15-13 singles march. He has won four in a row and is 10-9 in the spring.
The Mocs are trying to snap an eighth-match slide to the Bulldogs, who come into the week with an 8-10 overall record and a 1-4 mark in SoCon matches. Their only win in league play was a 5-2 victory against The Citadel, the same team the Mocs beat 4-3.
UNCG is 9-9 overall and 2-3 in SoCon action. The Mocs have dropped four in a row to the Spartans, including a 5-2 defeat in Greensboro last season.
