Volleyball Falls at ETSU in Straight Sets

Chattanooga volleyball couldn’t find momentum on Saturday during a three-set sweep on the road at ETSU.

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. --- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball program suffered a 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-17) sweep on the road at in-state rival ETSU on Saturday afternoon inside Brooks Gymnasium
 
Chattanooga drops its second-straight Southern Conference match and falls to an even 2-2 in conference action while moving to 6-11 overall for the 2018 season. ETSU, who has received votes in the latest AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, improves to 14-3 overall and 2-1 in the SoCon.
 
The Mocs have lost their last three meetings with the Bucs after claiming three-straight in the previous matchups. UTC currently sits fourth in the SoCon standings at 2-2 in a tie with UNCG.

ETSU 3, Chattanooga 0
After both teams traded the match's first 20 points, ETSU closed the set by scoring 15 of the next 24 to earn a 25-19 set win and a 1-0 lead. The Bucs cruised from that point, capturing the second and third sets in domination fashion, both by 25-17 scores, to finish off the sweep.
 
Chattanooga was out-blocked, 10.0 to 1.0, and allowed a .379 hitting percentage from the home team, the fourth highest percentage by an opponent this season. UTC picked up its lone block on ETSU's first match point. It's the fewest blocks in a match since Sept. 3, 2016 at Dayton.
 
Dani Szczepanski led the team with nine kills at a highly efficient .368 percentage while also adding three digs. Gylian Finch followed with eight kills and four digs.
 
Miranda Elpers chipped in with five kills, five digs and a pair of service aces while Emily Plumlee added three kills and a block assist. Jaquelyn Langhaim directed the offense with 19 assists and totaled four digs for the Mocs.
 
Bailey Bennett finished with a team-high nine digs in addition to Megan Kaufman who registered six digs, four assists and two aces at the service line.
