The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team has two home matches on the schedule for the weekend. The Mocs welcome North Alabama on Friday, Feb. 1, and Austin Peay on Saturday, Feb. 2. Both matches take place at the Strang-Voges Tennis Center at the McCallie School.
First serve against the Lions is set for 6:30 p.m. (E.S.T.). The Mocs are 10-1 all-time against UNA and this is the ninth year in a row these two teams meet in non-conference action. UTC has won two straight after a 4-2 loss in the 2016 dual. Chattanooga won last year's match 6-1 on Feb. 10.
"We are looking forward to being at home after starting the season with three tough matches in a row away from Chattanooga," stated head coach
Chuck Merzbacher. "We've had some strong team and individual practices this week. This group is super excited to take advantage of being at home."
UNA is in the first of a four-year transition to NCAA Division I. They are moving from the NCAA Division II Gulf South Conference to the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Lions are 0-4 this spring, having played Ole Miss (0-4) twice, Alabama (0-7) and Samford (0-7).
The Mocs are looking for their first win of the spring. They have faced a tough schedule that included MTSU (0-7), No. 22 Alabama (0-7) and a road trip to Presbyterian (2-5).
The Austin Peay match is 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. UTC is 16-6 all-time against the Governors, but has dropped six of the last eight in the series. The Mocs won last year's meeting 5-2 in Clarksville, Tenn., on Jan. 27. APSU is 0-3 overall, with losses to MTSU (0-7), Southern Utah (1-6) and Lipscomb (0-7).
