Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Jacksonville State vs. Chattanooga
Raider Arena – Niceville, Fla.
Saturday - November 30, 2019
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
Opening statement after 63-60 win over JSU.
"It was. They have some really good stuff out there and are so well-coached. They ran some great things. Our guys did a good job in recognizing some things we talked about on just one day of prep. It really was two similar teams battling out there. It was a good college basketball game. That simple. There was some drama down the stretch and I think we could have handled that a little better, but in hindsight, you'd rather come out on the right side of things in this kind of way."
On jumping out strong in the second half.
"These guys are young. They're fragile at times. Just to see that number get flipped, there's no inspiration better than when you come out in the second half and take care of business like that."
Â
On the overall shooting performance.
"We had four unchallenged threes, with four good shooters shooting them. We didn't make any of them. I was overall happy though. We rushed some shots where if we waited we might have had a better look. We're capable of shooting the ball a little better."
Â
On JSU making a late run.
"The bulk of it was that we made some mistakes defensively, but at the end of the day, you can always save the day by getting a rebound. There were so many scrums and I felt like they came out with all of them. You have to rebound the ball and be committed to boxing a guy out, gnawing and clawing to get that ball. Good offensive teams will make you pay for not being able to do that."
On a 5-3 record after first eight games.
"It was a very difficult schedule. We didn't do it just to do it. We wanted to challenge our guys, test them. The times and dates are always subject to change at this time of year. It was an extremely challenging eight games and I'm proud of them to come out with five wins. We feel good with what we've done so far and we'll continue to grow."Â
Jonathan Scott, G/F-Sr.
On providing a spark for the team.
"My teammates put a lot of confidence in me, especially the last couple weeks. I've been more aggressive off the bench and that's helped the team get wins."
On knocking down go-ahead three late in the game.
"It's just another shot. It's what we work on every day. It comes naturally. They put the ball in my hands and I knew I had to take that shot. I took it, felt confident in it, and it went in. A lot of my shots today came in open situations because my teammates got to the paint and got me open. I was open in the corner a lot, it's a testament to my teammates and them finding me."
On what could have been better.
"Our execution was pretty good. We had a little problem getting to the ball, getting rebounds. We needed to do a little better in that regard. Our leadership is what stepped up. We played well when Matt [Ryan] was pushing us to be better, and that helped for sure."
On 5-3 start to season.
"We've been on the road for so long. We're excited to come back home. We've done well for the most part and faced some tough opponents. We want to come home and get some wins."
