TEAM
- Chattanooga dropped a hard-fought 63-58 decision at Virginia Tech…record falls to 6-5 while the Hokies improve to 7-3.
- Almost an identical score to the last meeting when Virginia Tech topped the visiting Mocs 63-59 on Dec. 2, 2004.
- Just the third meeting with Virginia Tech…1-2, 0-2 in Blacksburg…30th matchup with Head Coach Mike Young who 14-15 during his tenure at Wofford against the Mocs.
- Trailed 32-28 at the half…2-3 when down at the 20-minute mark this season…VT now 6-2 when leading at the break…tied for second-fewest first half points by the Hokies this season…they also led 32-28 in their 71-66 win over Michigan State in Maui.
- 13 offensive rebounds for Virginia Tech turned out to be a huge difference in the game with the Hokies scoring 18 second chance points…14 of those scored came in the first half.
- Second-fewest points this season for Virginia Tech matching its output in its last home game, a 77-63 loss to Duke.
- Limited the Hokies to just 39.0 percent shooting from the field and 28.6 percent from 3pt range…lowest shooting percentage since 38.6 percent winning their season opener at Clemson.
- Chattanooga shot 41,5 percent making 22 of 53 attempts…first loss this season when shooting better than the opposition (5-1).
- -9 on the boards in the first 20 minutes but +6 in the second…-3 for the contest grabbing 33 to Tech's 36.
- -3 in turnover margin (10-7) but had a 10-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
- 0-2 this season against the ACC losing at Florida State...12-33 all-time against current ACC membership. Records: Clemson 2-0, Florida State 0-3, Georgia Tech 2-15, Louisville 6-5, North Carolina 0-5, N.C. State 1-0, Notre Dame 0-1, Virginia Tech 1-2 & Wake Forest 0-2.
- Last win over an ACC school? Def. Virginia Tech on Dec. 23, 2000, but that was before the Hokies joined the league in 2004. You have to go back to the 1985 NIT 1st round victory over Clemson, 67-65 in overtime in the Roundhouse.
