CHATTANOOGA--- The Chattanooga Mocs return to McKenzie Arena on Sunday, Dec. 29, for a double-header with the women's program. The guys are up first at 1:30 p.m., hosting Cumberland before the ladies square off with Ohio at 4 p.m. Donate two canned food items to help replenish the Chattanooga Area Food Bank and get buy one, get one free tickets.

The Mocs shake off the holiday rust with a visit from Cumberland University. The Mocs are looking for a third win in a row after triumphs over Troy, 84-80 in overtime in the Roundhouse, and UNC Asheville, 68-64 on the road.

They're 4-0 in McKenzie Arena with wins over Tennessee State, South Alabama, Tennessee Wesleyan and most recently, the Trojans. The matchup with the Phoenix is the last non-conference tilt of the season. It's been a good run for this edition of the Mocs with seven DI wins outside SoCon and postseason play for just the fourth time in school history (1987-88, 2015-16 & 2016-17).

The group has done it in a variety of ways. They've ground out wins on the defense end like Tennessee State and Jacksonville State, won a shootout against Troy, blew past South Alabama and Alabama State, came back big at Troy and held strong on the road at UNC Asheville. The experience from the 2019 portion of the schedule should serve them well in conference play after the calendar shifts to 2020.

It's a stretch of rest and focus for the Mocs. From the Dec. 15 win over Troy to the Jan. 4 game at Mercer, there are just two games over 19 days (9.5 days/game). The first 12 games spanned 41 days (3.4).

This is an exhibition game for the Phoenix. They resume regular season play at Campbellsville on Sat., Jan. 4. They are an NAIA Division I program competing in the Mid-South Conference.

When the calendar turns to 2020, the Mocs hit the road again at Mercer (Jan. 4). They return home for a 3-game homestand hosting Furman (Jan. 8), Samford (Jan. 11) and Wofford (Jan. 15). Tickets are available on GoMocs.com or calling the McKenzie Arena ticket office at (423) 266-MOCS (6627). There is a discount for advance purchase.

3 NOTES TO KNOW
- All-time (DI era) record on the first game back from holiday break is 39-4 (.907) with a 31-1 (.969) mark in the Roundhouse. It's 7-2 (.778) this decade, 5-0 at home with the last four coming on the road (2-2).
- 4-0 when the score is within four points, 12-11 under Paris (4-7/4-4). Best mark since 6-0 in 2015-16. The only other unbeaten campaign in such circumstances? 2005-06 (2-0).
- A win makes it nine before the New Year. That's happened just four other seasons: 1983-84 (9), 2002-03 (9), 2015-16 (11) & 2016-17 (10).
