Mocs Play Two in Charleston This Week

UTC visits the College of Charleston and The Citadel on spring break.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team has two matches in Charleston, S.C., this week.  The Mocs travel to the College of Charleston on Thursday, March 14, before visiting The Citadel on Sunday, March 17.

The match against the Cougars is set for 3:00 p.m. (E.D.T.) at the CofC Tennis Center at Patriots Point.  Live scoring is tentatively scheduled for the CofC match with a link available on the men's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.

The Citadel dual is at 10:00 a.m. at the Bulldogs' Jack Adams Tennis Center.  This is the Southern Conference opener for the Mocs.

UTC is 9-6 overall and already has its most wins in a season since going 12-9 in 2013.  Freshman Tomas Rodriguez has won eight in a row and is 11-4 at No. 2 singles.  Junior Niklas Gerdes is also 11-4 at No. 1.  Gerdes and Rodriguez have won seven in a row and are 11-1 at the Mocs' No. 2 doubles tandem.

Charleston native and Chattanooga freshman Kerim Hyatt is 8-7 at No. 3 singles.  He teams with junior Simon Bustamante at No. 1 doubles where they are 8-5 in the spring.

College of Charleston is 12-2 on the year and riding a four-match winning streak.  Their two losses are to Virginia Tech (1-6) and James Madison (2-5) and they have a win over Wofford (4-3).

The Cougars are former members of the Southern Conference, and this is the first meeting since they left the league in 2013.  UTC won that match 4-3 in Chattanooga on March 2.  The Mocs are 9-16 in the all-time series that dates back to the 1993 season.

The Citadel is 8-17 overall and 0-2 in SoCon action.  They have losses to UNCG (0-7) and Furman (1-6) in league play.  Chattanooga has won eight of the last nine in the series and holds a 31-5 mark against the Bulldogs since the series began in 1978.
