Lake Johnson and the Chattanooga Mocs strive for a seventh Southern Conference title starting play Sunday at Pinehurst No. 9.

CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team heads into Southern Conference Championships play this week at Pinehurst No. 9. The eight-team field plays the Jack Nicklaus design Sunday through Tuesday with 18 holes per day.
The Mocs are 6-time league champions claiming titles in 1987, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013 with close calls in 2014, 2016 and 2018. Only two student-athletes captured individual titles in Donnie Green (1978) and Stephan Jaeger (2012).
Tee times and scores, when available, can be accessed at the links above. Coach Mark Guhne is taking two seniors, a junior and two sophomores to the Sandhills of North Carolina.
LINEUP
Oliver Simonsen | Sophomore | 72.03 Scoring Average
Simonsen is the team's scoring leader by more than a stroke per round. He won the Memphis Intercollegiate in September with a school-record 21-under performance. He has 18 par or better cards with nine in the 60s. This is his first SoCon Championships.
Will Porter | Junior | 73.33
Porter had a strong fall ledger before illness limited him at the start of the spring. He played in last year's SoCon Championships leading after the first round. He ended up 18th with a 76.0 average at Pinehurst No. 9.
Connor Nolan | Sophomore | 73.79
Nolan is coming off his best scoring week as a collegian with a 1-under 215 earlier this week at the Old Waverly Collegiate. He's averaged 73.33 strokes per 18 (15 cards) during spring play. This is his first SoCon Championship.
Lake Johnson | Senior | 74.26
Johnson earned his way back in the lineup with a 68 in Thursday's one-day qualifier. He's making his third appearance at Pinehurst No. 9. He's finished seventh and 12th there averaging 73.67 over six rounds.
Etienne Brault | Senior | 74.53
Brault and Johnson have a lot in common. Both are making their third SoCon start and had matching 68s in qualifying. He was fourth in 2017 before tying for 20th a year ago. His postseason average is 74.83.

3 NOTES TO KNOW
- The Mocs have finished second five times to go with the six wins. Those came in 1978, 1989, 1993, 2014 and 2018.
- Simonsen is chasing the first under par season since 2012 sitting at 7 over heading into postseason play. Only two Mocs - Stephan Jaeger '12 and Jonathan Hodge '09 managed par or better for a season. Jaeger was 22 under in 2011-12 and -1 in 2010-11, while Hodge went 9 under in 2007-08.
- Current averages show the Mocs getting a stroke better every 18: 1st (292.20), 2nd (290.90) & 3rd (290.70).
