San Juan Sets Sights on Final 18 at NCAA Championships Auburn Site

Chattanooga Mocs senior Monica San Juan battled her “long game” in a frustrating back nine at the NCAA Championships Auburn Region.

OPELIKA, Ala.---It was a tale of two nines for Chattanooga Mocs senior Monica San Juan today at the NCAA Women's Golf Championships Auburn Region. She made the turn a 1 under before a balky driver and long irons limited her to a 6-over 78.
It was uncharacteristic day for the senior from Pamplona, Spain. She hit just six of 14 fairways, even though several were just off course in the first cut of rough. Still she managed to hit one more green (13) than the first 18.
Even still she started with eight straight pars leading off on No. 10. That included nice up-and-downs to save par at 12 and 13 and was moving along nicely after a birdie making a dicey downhiller on 18 to head to the front side at minus 1.
She parred the par 5 first before a 3-putt bogey on two. Back-to-back doubles on four and five derailed a solid start.
"I think it was my long game," San Juan replied. "I wasn't very comfortable with it all day even though I was hitting greens. I missed it right on four (her 13th hole) by a lot. After that, I just wasn't comfortable with my long game and it cost me a lot."
The 78 included 36 putts with 21 coming on her second nine. Over the two days, San Juan is 1 over on the 25 holes hitting the green in regulation, 10 over on the 11 missed.
That gives her a 2-day total of 155 (+11). She went right to work after signing her card to prepare for the final 18. So what was on tap?
"I'm just going to hit balls and get my swing back," she shared. "I'm going to try to get my swing back, just feel comfortable again. If I'm hitting it well (tomorrow), I believe the rest will come together."
San Juan is back on the course at 9:50 a.m., Eastern time, on Wednesday. She begins her day once again on the 10th tee. Results along with photo gallery, live scoring, pairings and notes are linked above.
