ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF

CHATTANOOGA---Lake Johnson completed his Chattanooga Mocs career in April at the Southern Conference Championships. He graduated in May with a degree in Finance but is still making news for the men's golf program from the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Johnson was named a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar this week. It's his second such honor and a difficult one to attain with just 269 in Division I golf this year. It requires starting in 50 percent of the team's rounds over the year maintaining a stroke average below 76.0 while registering a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20.

His efforts were not alone of the squad. The Mocs earned the GCAA Outstanding Team Academic Award.  The squad was one of 202 across the country, all divisions, to garner the award given to program's with 3.0 or greater GPA's. This group turned in 3.14 in the fall and then improved to 3.22 in the spring. They're joined by SoCon members ETSU, Furman, UNCG and Wofford.

The Chattanooga native turned in a 74.20 scoring mark in his final season with eight par or better cards. His best finish was a tie for 10th at the SoCon Championships. That gave him a career average of 74.66 with 30 18-hole scores at par or lower.

Johnson's academic ledger included earning Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll all four years. He completed his four years as a cum laude graduate honors. His fellow May graduate Etienne Brault also got some good news earning a spot in the 2019 United States Amateur.

Brault, who completed his degree in Business Management, earned Dean's List in his final semester. He claimed one of three spots with a 6-under 134 turning in 66 over the morning 18 and completing his 36-hole day with a 68 in the afternoon.

It's his second straight making the field at Pebble Beach in 2018 out of Harrison, N.Y. Alum Brooks Thomas '17 and rising junior Connor Nolan made the 2017 event. Steven Fox '13 is the Mocs provided one of the epic moments in program history winning the 2012 U.S. Am at iconic Cherry Hill Country Club. We commemorated the achievement five years later here in 2017.
