CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer will kick off the 2019 season this Friday with a home match against Austin Peay followed by a Sunday tilt at Eastern Kentucky.
Â
The Mocs return preseason All-Conference selection
Chloe Arnold along with two-time all-conference performer
Jordan Mueller. All-Freshman team members
Ashton Shields,
Maggie Shaw and
Hollie Massey will anchor a squad with depth despite more than half the team being underclassmen.
Â
Chattanooga closed out the 2018 season tied for fifth in the Southern Conference standings and was picked to finish sixth this year. The Mocs shutout Belmont and Tennessee Tech by 1-0 margins this preseason for a perfect exhibition schedule.
Â
Friday's match will be the first of eight games to be played at the newly dedicated $7.7 million facility paid for through student fees.
Â
The site is located on 17 acres next to historic Engel Stadium just off East Third Street. The facility includes four multi-purpose, synthetic turf fields for flag football, lacrosse, soccer and ultimate Frisbee, plus one grass field for rugby and band practice. There also are a quarter-mile walking track and three sand volleyball courts.
Â
The entire complex, which took about a year to build, is covered by LED lighting designed to focus on the sports fields and not spill over into the surrounding community.
Â
Bring your camp chairs and blankets to sit along a spacious sideline for the match. Food is
not allowed on the turf and
no pets are allowed in the facility.
Â
Admission is free to all Chattanooga home soccer matches.
