Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at UNCG
Greensboro Coliseum – Greensboro, N.C.
Saturday – Jan. 18, 2020
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
On not playing aggressively.
"You're not going to win the game that way. The way they scored in the first half against our set shouldn't have been like that. We didn't make them play against that enough, and then we turned the ball over. Overall, we just weren't competitive tonight. They kept coming and coming, being aggressive, we sort of wanted to fight against that, but we caved in a couple times and that was it."
Â
On turnovers leading to UNCG run.Â
"We overcame that. It did kill us at the end of the day, but it's a cumulative score. If you could throw out scores in the first half or second half, you would. We overcame that, took the lead, and then more of the same happened. That's what was frustrating. You figure out how to stop it and then you allow it to happen again. It got back to the stuff that wasn't quality basketball stuff."
Â
On competing at a high level.Â
"I would like to have the team that won't be rattled about those kinds of things. That's a good marker for us because we obviously have to be ready to compete every night. If we want to win the league, that's what you have to do. You have to be ready to compete every night. Unfortunately, we didn't tonight."
Â
On upcoming game against The Citadel on Wednesday.
"We have to get back to our stuff, get back to how we play, and regroup. I don't want to overreact, but we were playing and competing at a certain level and tonight I didn't feel like we did that. That's what is frustrating most. I felt like we were less aggressive, in some instances, because of who we were playing. And that shouldn't happen."
David Jean-Baptiste, R-Jr.-G
On what needs to happen moving forward.
"We have to play better and stay the course. When adversity hits, especially late in the game, you have to stay the course. You have to stay aggressive and stay the course, I think that's most important."
Â
On second half run to take a brief lead.
"It showed that we can play with the best teams in the conference. It shows we can play right there with them. It's just when adversity hits, you have to stay the course. Once they got the lead back, we took some questionable shots, had some good looks that didn't fall, and they made some good plays."
Ramon Vila, R-Jr.-F
On what was the biggest deciding factor.
"They had 12 offensive rebounds and we had 10, so I don't think that's a big deal even though we could have boxed out a little more. I think the main problem is that you cannot win the game with a ratio of six assists and 19 turnovers. It's probably one of our worst games this season there. We lost so many balls when they had a big run. We were up one and then we ended up down 20 because of that. We'll just work in practice and try to fix it."
On staying aggressive in the post.
"It's kind of hard after a loss, but I'm just trying to get good touches for myself and for the team. Coach always insists on me to post up, and be a little more selfish, so that's something I'm working on to balance that."
