CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs beach volleyball program has officially announced its inaugural competition schedule for the upcoming 2020 season.
UTC will play a limited schedule this spring before making the jump to a full competitive slate as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) in 2021.
"We are thrilled to begin our inaugural season of beach volleyball. It's a new opportunity to compete and represent the University with excellence," said head coach
Darin Van Horn.
"Beach volleyball is the fastest growing sport in the NCAA and we're excited to join that trend."
Chattanooga will play all but one match on the road and opens the season at Mercer on February 29 before heading to Jacksonville State on March 20. UTC then travels to UT Martin for a weekend of play on March 27 and 28.
The first home match in program history will take place March 31 against Georgia State at the UTC Sports Complex.
Chattanooga competes in tournament play back at Jacksonville State on April 17 and 18 against the likes of Morehead State, Austin Peay and EKU before rounding out the season at the OVC Championships held at UT Martin on April 24 and 25.
"With our resilient training, we believe the IQ and technique will develop quickly to allow us to compete and challenge the OVC," added Van Horn.
All start times are still TBA. As part of the limited competition and membership, UTC is not able to participate in NCAA postseason play until 2021.
Full season previews including roster and recruiting announcements will be released leading up to first serve.
