PREVIEW: Men’s Basketball Starts 3-Game Homestand Wednesday Night

Matt Ryan and the Chattanooga Mocs return to the Roundhouse Wednesday night starting a 3-game home stretch with Southern Conference leader Furman.

CHATTANOOGA--- The Chattanooga Mocs and Furman Paladins put the two longest winning streaks in the Southern Conference on the line tonight in the Roundhouse. The game is promoted as a WHITE OUT with all fans encouraged to wear white. Free t-shirts at the gate along with free tacos and t-shirts for students.
 
Chattanooga improved to 10-5 with a 70-61 win Saturday at Mercer, while Furman moved to 13-3 topping ETSU 65-56 at home. The Paladins are the SoCon's early leader at 3-0, while the Mocs are just 1.5 back at 1-1.
 
Matt Ryan (14.5 ppg) and David Jean-Baptiste (13.3) lead the Mocs. Ramon Vila adds 9.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. Vila's averages over the last six are 12.2 points and 6.8 rebounds shooting 66.7 percent (32-48).
 
Jordan Lyons paces the Paladins at 17.4 points per game. He's scoring at a 22.3-point clip during the 6-game win streak. That included a 40-point outburst at VMI a week ago. Noah Gurley adds 14.1 points and 5.0 rebounds, while Clay Mounce checks in at 13.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest.
 
The 7 p.m., tipoff is available on ESPN+ as well as locally on the radio via WFLI 97.7 FM & 1070 AM. Fans can also access audio on the TuneIn app. The 3-game homestand continues Saturday with Samford (Jan. 11) followed by Wofford (Jan. 15). 3 NOTES TO KNOW
- Chattanooga moved into the league lead in defensive rebound percentage collecting 75.3 percent of their opponents misses. That's propelled with three games in a row with three or fewer allowed on the offensive boards - 3 at UNC Asheville before just two each to Cumberland and at Mercer. That's 85 of 92 opportunities (92.4%).
- Won four in a row and seven of nine. Last 5-game win streak came Jan. 5-21, 2017: Wofford (77-66), Furman (80-64), The Citadel (83-73), at Mercer (70-68) & Samford (82-78). The Paladins have six straight wins, nine of 11.
- The Mocs have been led in scoring by either Matt Ryan (6) or David Jean-Baptiste (3) or both (3) in 12 games. The other three? Stefan Kenić (Alabama State/Virginia Tech) and Ramon Vila (Cumberland).
