TEAM
- UTC tied the best start to the season in school history with a 69-66 win at UAB today.  The Mocs are 8-0 for the first time since the 1973-74 season.  UAB lost for the first time this season, falling to 7-1 overall. 

- Freshman Jamaal Walker scored the go-ahead basket with 20 seconds left, followed by a UTC defensive stop and a free throw by Malachi Smith to seal the win.

- Mocs are currently the only team in NCAA Division I with an 8-0 record … Xavier and Drake are both 7-0 and play on Sunday. 

- UTC led 64-56 with 4:22 left to play … UAB went on a 10-0 run to take the lead 66-64 with 1:18 left on a Kassim Nicholson layup … Mocs scored the final five points from the field. 

- UAB's 7-0 start entering today's contest was a program best for the Blazers.

- Just the fourth win for UTC in the all-time series … 3-13 overall … first win in Birmingham … 1-9 on the road. 

- Win No. 50 for head coach Lamon Paris [50-56 (4th season)].

- Mocs are 2-0 against Conference USA this season, including the 80-70 win at MTSU on Dec. 7 … 8-13 in games vs Conference USA teams … 4-9 mark on the road.

- UAB outrebounded the Mocs 39-33, including 12-6 on the offensive end … only held an 11-8 advantage in second-chance points.

- UTC had 14 assists on 25 baskets compared to six on 29 makes for the Blazers … fewest assists this season for UAB.   

- Mocs forced UAB to shoot a season-low-tying 18.8% (3-16) from behind the arc. 

INDIVIDUAL
A.J. Caldwell – Jr.-G
- 12 points on 4-6 shooting, 4-5 from three.
- Added five boards and two steals.
- 14-19 (73.57%) from three last three games.
- Two steals in each of the last three games.

Trey Doomes – Jr.-G
- Career-high 15 points in 26 minutes off the bench. 
- Shot 6-10 from the field and 3-6 from the FT line.
- Season-high seven rebounds.
- Fourth game in double-figures this season, all off the bench.
- 40 points last three games … 14-24 (58.3%) from the field in that stretch.

Stefan Kenic – Sr.-F
- 11 points on 1-6 shooting, 1-3 from three and 8-8 from the FT line.
- Added four rebounds.
- Most FTs without a miss by a Moc since he went 8-8 vs. VMI on Feb. 12, 2020. 

Malachi Smith – So.-G
- Sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 boards.
- Led the team in scoring for the third time.
- Led the team in rebounding each game this season.
- Shot 7-17 from the field, 1-3 from three and 1-2 from the FT line.
- Added four assists and a steal.  
- Big defensive rebound and steal in the final minute of the game.
- Second game in a row he has iced the win with a steal.

Jamaal Walker – Fr.-F
- Six points, including the go-ahead basket with 20 seconds left.
- Led the team with a season-high five assists.
