Mocs Post 4-3 Win at Belmont

UTC runs its winning streak to seven matches in a row.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's tennis team extended its current winning streak to seven matches with a 4-3 comeback win at Belmont tonight.  The Mocs moved to 7-1 overall, while the Bruins dropped to 3-3. 

Chattanooga dropped the doubles point for the second match in row, but was able to overcome the early deficit.  This current run of seven wins in a row is the longest for the Mocs since winning seven-straight in 2008. 

Freshman Jeffrey Dewald tied the match at 1-1 with a win at No. 4.  That was followed by sophomore Tomas Rodriguez's win at No. 2 to give the Mocs a 2-1 lead. 

Belmont tied the match with a win at No. 5 and took a 3-2 lead after scoring another point at No. 2.  The Bruins looked to be in control, having also won the first set in both remaining matches.

Junior Jacob Marshall managed to battle back and take a three-set win at No. 6 to tie the score at 3-3.  Senior Niklas Gerdes secured the win with another comeback victory at No. 1. 

Up next for the Mocs is a Sunday home match against UNC-Asheville.  The Bulldogs beat the Mocs 5-2 last year in Asheville. First serve is set for 1:00 p.m. (E.S.T.) at the McCallie School's Strang-Voges Tennis Center.  A link for live scoring in on the men's tennis schedule page on GoMocs.com.
