ABOUT CHATTANOOGA BASKETBALL
Â
CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs registered two members on the All-Southern Conference teams, the league office announced late Wednesday afternoon. Graduate student
Matt Ryan and junior
Ramon Vila earned spots on the 15-man listing.
Â
Ryan made the second team per the coaches and media. He led the Mocs with a 15.8 point-per-game average, shooting 36.1 percent from 3pt range. He's 11 points shy of becoming 24th student-athlete in school history to score 500 points in a season, 16th of the DI era (43 years).
Â
Vila is second on the team in scoring at 12.9 points and leads on the boards with 5.5 rebounds per game. He is 10th nationally in field goal percentage making 62.2 percent of his efforts.
Â
"I think any individual accolade is typically a by-product of what your team does," Coach
Lamont Paris shared after practice Wednesday. "Their teammates embrace the role Matt and Ramon have, and they've helped them have the kind of individual seasons to be recognized by the league's coaches and media.
Â
"Both of those guys have worked really hard, they're good players in their own right and they've had really good seasons particularly toward the end."
Â
To his point, Ryan is on the fourth-longest (tie) stretch of games with multiple threes at 10. He's averaging 19.2 ppg over that span. Vila has double digits in 14 of his past 15 games including his first 20-point efforts in wins over Samford (24), VMI (23), at The Citadel (20) and last Saturday's regular season finale triumph over UNC Greensboro (21).
Â
The Mocs tackle UNCG in the quarterfinals of the Ingles Southern Conference Championships presented by General Shale. The two meet at 8:30 p.m., Saturday in the Harrah's Cherokee Center Asheville.Â
