Wear Moves in TGA Match Play Semifinals

Chattanooga Mocs freshman Braedon Wear earned a semifinal berth in the Tennessee Match Championship.

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN--- Incoming freshman Braedon Wear (pronounced Bray-don Ware) moved to the semifinals of the Tennessee Match Play Championship at Lookout Mountain Golf Club today. The field of 64 that started on Tuesday has pared to just four.
Sixteen 4-player pods saw 16 players emerge Wednesday afternoon. Wear had to go through teammate Oliver Simonsen to reach the round of 16, while Assistant Coach Ryan Heisey fell just shy in his own foursome.
Wear took on Chattanoogan Jesse Felker from McCallie who just finished his freshman year at Denison (Ohio) University. A dominating 5&3 performance from Wear Thursday morning brought on fellow Knoxvillian Carson Kammann in the afternoon.
Wear continued his impressive march with a 5&4 triumph to move into the semifinals. Defending champion Connor McKay awaits. McKay, who just transferred from Lipscomb to Middle Tennessee, earned a 3&2 result over Sam Lape in the morning before beating Jaron Leasure to set up his match with Wear.
The semifinals start at 8:30 a.m., Friday at Lookout Mountain Golf Club with the final 18 to follow in the afternoon. The other half of the bracket features LMGC member Steve Johnson, who played collegiately at Abilene Christian, and Cade Russell (Tennessee).
Two Mocs claimed wins in the event with Steven Fox (2011) and Oliver Simonsen (2018). Lake Johnson finished as runner-up in 2016 at Bear Trace at Harrison Bay as did Fox at Chattanooga Golf & Country Club in 2010. Zac Stolz also finished second in 2014 at Holston Hills in Knoxville.
