CHATTANOOGA---From one rivalry to another, it's Samford week in Chattanooga. The Chattanooga Mocs face one of their oldest friends Saturday afternoon at the Samford Bulldogs. Both teams enter the contest 3-3 overall and in the thick of the Southern Conference race.

Five teams – UTC (2-1), ETSU (3-1), VMI (3-1), Mercer (3-1) & Furman (2-1) – have just one loss, while Samford (2-2) and The Citadel (1-2) are hot on their heels. It's that time of year where every week is pivotal and every opponent dangerous.
 
While last week's game was matchup of similar teams…this one is just the opposite. It's defense vs. offense and not just in hyperbole. This is literally pitting strength vs. strength with conference leaders on both sides of the ball.

It's a battle of wills. The Mocs talked about the upcoming game, opponent and little about themselves in the process of Tuesday's press conference. Coach Rusty Wright was joined by senior running back Tyrell Price and senior safety Jerrell Lawson. Price is this week's SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, while Lawson collected his third interception of the season Saturday and is one behind fellow safety mate Brandon Dowdell for the league lead.
   
3 NOTES TO KNOW

• Devonnsha Maxwell (10 sacks) and Jay Person (3 fumble recoveries) are tied for the national lead in those categories. Person is fourth in forced fumbles (3).
• Tyrell Price's 102 yards Saturday put him over the 1,400-mark with 1,412 for his career with 19 touchdowns, 20 total including one receiving. One rushing TD out of the top 10 with the quartet of James Roberts '93, Robert Smith '70, Kenneth Strong '30 and Clarence Lautzenheiser '29 with 20.
• Closing in on 200 career tackles: Ty Boeck (198) & Jerrell Lawson (190).
