Postgame Quotes - Tennessee Tech

2021-22 Chattanooga Mocs Men's Basketball
Game 3 – Tennessee Tech
Nov. 16 – McKenzie Arena – Chattanooga, Tenn.
Postgame Quotes

Lamont Paris – Head Coach
Opening statement.
"Tennessee Tech has a physical team and they played hard. The refs were consistent in letting it be a physical game. You could tell by how [Tennessee Tech] played that they wanted to win. It was good for us. It was good to get into the situation late in the game that we needed to make some plays. We made some basketball plays but we did not execute and didn't make decisions in some areas that we wanted to make. Man, the rematch will be fun."

On the team's defense in the final 10 minutes of action.
"We settled down defensively. I know there are going to be points scored. There are ways teams should not score and their first four buckets of the second half is exactly what it was. We buttoned it up defensively, stayed in front and made better decisions. We got the ball around the basket. Avery was injected into the lineup and that was very important for us. He got some buckets and got fouled on one of them and that was a great thing to see. We got the ball inside and sealed up the defense a little bit in terms of our decision making."

On the Mocs' three-point defense.
"You can't prevent someone from shooting a three but you can guard it in a way that makes them shoot on the move. That's what we were doing. They have a lot of guys that are capable shooting the three. Jr. Clay numbers from the three-point line haven't been phenomenal yet, I know he can make threes. We tried to make them shoot out of rhythm."

On sharing the ball offensively.
"We have a lot of guys that have the ability to put the ball in the basket. We had seven point-blank shots that we didn't come up with in the first half. We do have a lot of guys who know where they are comfortable getting the ball and we try to get the ball to that person."

Malachi Smith – So., Guard
On the team's second half production.
"We continued to play solid but finish each play. I told the team at the half that we were getting the stops but not finishing the play and they were getting second chance points."

On knowing Chattanooga is the team everyone wants to beat.
"Every team wants to beat us. That makes us pay attention to detail more and play harder. It is a good feeling knowing you beat a team that gives their best punch. We love the expectations, at the end of the day if you want to be great, you have to handle the expectations."

On tonight's crowd.
"We want to put on a show for the fans. We have something special and we don't want anyone missing out. If people can get here, we want them to come."
