Chattanooga Men's Basketball
Nov. 23 - vs. Covenant - McKenzie Arena
Postgame Quotes
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
On the 100-39 win over Covenant.
"You never know a game is going to go like that. We had times like that. In the first half, if you're not mature about how you handle it, the game can look different. The guys were really, really mature with how they handled the game especially when we got up. That's a very difficult thing to do, as a player or a coach. We didn't have any slippage and I thought we were very mature."
Â
On the bench's role and everyone getting minutes.
"That's great that everyone feels a part of it. Every role is important, and we always preach that. Every role. You may not like your role, but you have to accept it. Every role is important. It's a lot easier to tell those guys when they have a chance to play that their role is important. Tomorrow at practice, we're going to have guys talk about what they did on the floor. That stuff is critically important for the growth and morale of your team."
Â
On the 8,910 in attendance on Hamilton County Literacy Day.
"It was incredible. Absolutely incredible. I wish we could do it every game. They had so much life and energy. How awesome is that? I want to thank the Hamilton County school board and our people here for helping set this up. Those kids were so awesome. We had 7,200 at VCU and I didn't feel anything. You could feel it today. It was a different life."
Â
On the team's interactions with the local students.
"I've heard so much feed back on that specifically. I've had five or six times where people have reached out to me about the fact that their child interacted with our player at school, and now all of a sudden that guy is their favorite player. The impact it has on young kids is tremendous. What a great thing. It's awesome and it makes me happy."
David Jean-Baptiste, Gr.-G
On the 8,910 in attendance and Hamilton County Literacy Day.
"It was amazing. Hearing those kids and the excitement in their voices. It was awesome. It vaulted us to a great victory. Covenant is a really good team who plays hard. We came out with an overwhelming victory and the excitement from the kids brought that to us. Having that excitement and energy from the kids, it gave us what we needed to win."
Â
On the bench's role today.
"It means the world to us. Seeing those guys get minutes. Those guys practice so hard and it means the world to us to see them get a chance show off the work they put in. It's a joy that we play for each other and it's a joy to have the love on this team."
A.J. Caldwell, Jr.-G
On everyone playing their role.
"I think it's easy when you don't get a lot of minutes to be selfish or try to do too much. The guy's who came off the bench were so unselfish and played together, everyone played hard. Everyone came in and played their role and did exactly what we needed to, and it led us to the result that we had."
Â
On the crowd full of Hamilton County School students.
"It's crazy. The kids were screaming and having a good time, it was the loudest I've ever heard it in here. It was cool and I think we should do that again with some more fans at a normal time like a Saturday night or something like that. It was a great atmosphere and I think the kids had a really good time. We enjoyed it."
