Historic ITA Run for Rodriguez and Gatti Ends in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- Playing in the consolation doubles draw, the Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team of Tomas Rodriguez and Peyton Gatti dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to LSU's Gabriel Diaz Freire and Vlad Lobak late Friday night in San Diego, California at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Fall Championships.

The loss eliminates Rodriguez and Gatti from the event. While the results didn't show, it was a historic success for the program to be represented in this specfic ITA tournament for the first time.

"We didn't get the results we wanted here in San Diego, but at the same time we are quite proud of getting this far," said head coach Chuck Merzbacher.

"Peyton and Tomas learned a lot from this experience, and they'll build on this for sure."

Additionally this week, the UTC men's team is represented at the Southern Conference Fall Championships held in Belton, S.C., with the doubles team of Bo Nash and Quinten Nevenhoven competing in the event.

Chattanooga will now gear up for the upcoming spring season which kicks off in January. Stick to GoMocs.com for the spring schedule release and season preview leading up to competition in the coming weeks.
