Postgame Quotes
Lamont Paris, Head Coach
Overall statement after 78-73 win at UNC Asheville.
"It's another road win. That's one of the hardest things to do in sports, win a game on the road in men's college basketball. We'll take it. We had players that didn't have their best. It wasn't just shot making, it was overall. We found enough. They got on a run in the second half and we have to figure out what we're doing defensively. I don't know what it is, but we have to figure it out."
Â
On the team's depth.
"It's the nature of this whole thing. When you have quality depth like we have, you can withstand a lot of things. You have options. That was important for us that we had options. We've done a pretty good job of shooting the ball from three, but it wasn't David [Jean-Baptiste] tonight, it was AJ Caldwell. We have a ton of options."
Â
On the play from Malachi Smith.
"It's a good combination of making shots and making plays. Some guys are good at one, but not the other, he's got a rare combination that he can do both. We're fortunate he's on our side, he's a great kid and we're really glad to have him. We needed it tonight."
Â
A.J. Caldwell, Jr.-G
On going 5-for-5 from deep in the first half.
"It was really good, it felt great. It was nice to see the ball go in when it came off the rim and we did a good job defensively, so it was a good half all around."
Â
On second half adversity.
"Yeah, I think all that stuff is beneficial. We don't want that to happen obviously, but a lot of times you need it. You look around and see guys like David, Malachi, KC, Silvio, DB … they're all used to these situations. It's nice to get through some adversity early on this season. It was nice to see the rally and make some plays at the end."
Â
On the team's maturity.
"It's a different dynamic. We have a lot of older and guys and we've been around. We know how things go. A lot of us haven't cut down nets at the end of the season and that's a common goal. We all know we're important to this team and we don't want to jeopardize anything. We try to keep that reputation solid and build on the people we are."
Â
Avery Diggs, Gr.-F
On coming to a program like Chattanooga.
"It was important. I've been in school for five years now and we have an older team now and we know that we're all going to be doing something after basketball is over."
Â
On the second half effort.
"We tend to slack off in that second half. It was nice to see us rally and push back to grab the lead and make plays down the stretch."
Â
On winning road games.
"It's very important, especially winning these away games. That's the hardest thing to do is win on the road. If we keep doing that then we'll be good later in the year."
