CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team earned an opening-set victory but failed to sustain its momentum during a 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-19) road loss to Wofford inside Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium Sunday evening in Southern Conference action.
 
It marks the first loss of the 2020-21 season for Chattanooga, moving its record to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in league play. Wofford improves to 1-0 overall and in the SoCon after competing in its first match in over a year's span.
 
Chattanooga trailed 19-18 late in the opening set before scoring seven of the final 11 points to earn a tight 25-23 decision to jump ahead 1-0. Wofford cruised to a 25-17 set win in the second to even the match up at the break.
 
Wofford carried its momentum into the third and played its way to a convincing 25-15 victory to pull ahead 2-1 in the match. Chattanooga raced out to an early 5-1 lead in the fourth off back-to-back aces from Gylian Finch (Mt. Morris, Ill.) but couldn't fight off the Terriers offensive attack, dropping the set 25-19 and the match 3-1.
 
Chattanooga surrendered a .264% attack percentage to Wofford while only attacking at a .148% clip on the offensive. UTC was limited to a -.056% mark in the match-clinching fourth set, committing 12 errors on 36 total attacks.
