SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team saw its match go all five sets for the fourth time this season, but the squad found itself on the wrong end for the first time in a 3-2 (25-20, 25-22, 14-25, 21-25, 15-12) loss at SoCon-foe Wofford on Monday evening inside the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.

Chattanooga drops to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in league play following the loss. Wofford improves to 2-0 overall and in the conference. UTC battled back from a 2-0 deficit to force a deciding fifth-set.

Wofford controlled much of the opening set with a lead that reached nine at 17-8 before Chattanooga responded with an 8-1 run to cut it to 18-16. The Terriers ultimately shut the door with seven of the final 11 points going its way for a 25-20 set win.

The second set went back-and-forth early on with both teams battling to a 9-9 tie before three quick points from the hosts forced UTC into a timeout. Chattanooga cut it to two on a few different occasions, the latest being 24-22, but an attacking error on set point gave Wofford a 2-0 lead.

The Mocs raced out to a 9-5 lead in the must-win third set and extended its advantage to six at 14-8 before the Terriers called for timeout. UTC continued its momentum down the stretch and reached its largest lead, 25-14, on a set-clinching kill from
Coniah Davis (Glen Allen, Va.). UTC attacked at a blistering .361% percentage for the set.

Wofford opened the fourth set with a 6-3 lead and maintained the three-point advantage at 10-7 before UTC scored nine of the next 12 to re-take a 16-13 lead. The Mocs extended the advantage to four at 21-17 before both teams traded points in the homestretch, giving UTC a 25-21 set win and forcing a deciding fifth set.

In the fifth, the home team raced out to a 6-3 lead before a tremendous defensive effort on a long rally sparked a three-point run for UTC, tying things at 6-6. Wofford responded with the next four points to build a 10-6 lead and eventually held on for a 15-12 set decision and 3-2 victory in the match.
