EATONTON, Ga.---The Chattanooga Mocs ended up tied for seventh with Memphis at the Linger Longer Invitational. The two programs located on the opposite ends of Tennessee recorded 876.
 
The Mocs final round 295 was made that much harder when junior Oliver Simonsen had to withdraw on the back nine due to illness. That meant every score counted including Matt Smith who was 8 over at the time as the team sat at plus 14.
 
"It was an impressive fight," Coach Mark Guhne shared. "We got off to a tough start and Oliver's illness dropped us to four. Really proud of all the guys, but Matt knew we needed a score and he got two back.
 
"We were 14 over through eight holes and 7 under the rest of the way. That's the type of fight we can build on."
 
That rose to 15 over after A.J. Lintunen's bogey on 10. Smith holed out for eagle on 11 and the spark was lit. Paul Conroy and A.J. Lintunen added birdies there with Lintunen and Connor Nolan added birds on 12. The quartet came in 2 under over the final six.
 
Nolan's 70 paced the Mocs 295. Lintunen carded 73 with 74 for Conroy and 78 by Smith. Nolan's 2 under day rose him into a tie for 16th at 1 under, two better than Lintunen knotted in 24th at 1 over.
 
Charlotte pulled away from Georgia Tech for the 11-point win with Virginia ending up third. John Gough from the 49ers was medalist with 203.
