CHATTANOOGA --- The Chattanooga Mocs beach volleyball program made history during its first ever home match, picking up a 5-0 win against Carson-Newman in game one of a doubleheader on a warm Wednesday everning inside the UTC Sports Complex.
 
Chattanooga dropped the second match of the day in tight fashion, 3-2. Following the split, UTC improves to 1-6 while Carson-Newman ups its record to 3-1.
 
"I'm proud of the way we competed and couldn't be happier for these girls to be a part of history as we continue to build our program," said head coach Darin Van Horn.
 
"We were right there in the second match of the day, too. It's awesome to watch this team grow and really come together before we head into our OVC schedule."
 
The top pair of Baylee Young and Jordan Krege upped their winning streak to four after picking up a pair of hard-fought 2-1 victories against the Eagles top duo.
 
The No. 4 pair of Gylian Finch and Paige Gallentine made their sand debut this season and dazzled, going a perfect 2-0 on the day, earning a comeback 2-1 win in the first match before rolling to a 2-0 decision in the nightcap.
 
Playing as the No. 2 pair Victoria Cerino and Hanley Lomax earned a straight 2-0 (22-20, 21-19) victory in the first match of the day before falling 2-0 (21-15, 21-13) in the final matchup.
 
The No. 3 pair of Bailey Steger and Madelina Myers-Osband and No. 5 duo of Makenzie Jordan and Abby Ashway also went 1-1 on the day, winning in the first match and falling in the second.
