Volleyball Falls 3-0 at ETSU on Sunday

Chattanooga falls in straight sets on the road against in-state foe ETSU.

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team suffered a straight-set, 3-0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-12), loss at in-state rival ETSU on Sunday afternoon inside Brooks Gymnasium in Johnson City, Tenn.
 
Following the loss, Chattanooga falls to 6-11 overall and 4-11 in SoCon play. ETSU improves its overall and conference record to 6-9 following the victory.

Chattanooga raced out to an early 11-7 lead in the opening set before the home team battled back to tie things 16-16. ETSU scored six of the next eight to build a 22-18 edge ahead of a quick 6-2 run from the Mocs brought things to a tie 24-24. A pair of errors, one service and one ball handling, allowed the Bucs to clinch the first set, 26-24.
 
The second set saw back-and-forth action early on with the teams trading the first 18 points. From there, ETSU went on a 5-1 run to create a 14-9 lead before extending out to a lead as big as nine, and then clinched the set at 25-16 to lead the match 2-0.
 
It was all ETSU in the third set with the hosts scoring 18 of the first 23 points, building an insurmountable 18-5 lead. The set and match would end with each team scoring seven points, 25-12.  
 
Gylian Finch led the team with 11 kills while Kate Neill added nine at a team-best .421% hitting percentage. Mikaela Gauthreaux added six kills at a .176% clip in her second-to-last match of her UTC career.
 
Brenna Everingham led the team with 16 digs as the starting libero for the third-straight match. Everingham also added five assists and a service ace. Bailey Steger and Sophia Bossong directed the offense, posting 16 and 15 assists respectively.
