CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team suffered a straight-set sweep, 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-23), at The Citadel on Sunday afternoon in Southern Conference action inside McAlister Field House in Charleston, S.C.

Following the loss, Chattanooga falls to 5-8 overall and 3-8 in league play. The Citadel improves its overall mark to 4-10 and its league tally to 2-7.

The Citadel came out firing in the first set, attacking at a .250 clip while recording 16 kills and committing just four errors. With the set tied 20-20, the Bulldogs scored consecutive points to build a slight cushion and eventually traded points down the stretch in a 25-22 decision.
Chattanooga found themselves in an early hole in the second set, 9-4, and saw the deficit grow to as much as 10, twice, with the latest coming at 22-12. The Citadel captured a 25-18 set win to pull ahead 2-0 despite a strong offensive attack from the Mocs. UTC attacked at a .250 percentage behind 15 kills and just four errors.

In the must-win third set, Chattanooga raced out to a 9-5 lead before the home team called from timeout. Following the timeout, The Citadel responded with a 7-4 run to pull within one at 13-12. The two teams went back-and-forth before the Bulldogs broke away from a 21-21 tie to win 25-23 in the set and 3-0 in the match.

Chattanooga was led on offense by
Maia Rackel (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) who finished with a team-high 13 kills at an efficient .312 attacking percentage.
MacKenzie Saitta (Elkhorn, Neb.) and
Mikaela Gauthreaux (Johns Creek, Ga.) followed with 11 and six kills, respectively, to aid the offense.

Sophia Bossong (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) directed the offense with 32 assists while chipping in with four kills and nine digs to fill the stat sheet.
Brenna Everingham (Noblesville, Ind.) recorded a career-high four aces and added seven digs defensively to help on both sides of the net.

Emma Perkins (Rossville, Tenn.) posted a career-high 15 digs to pace the Mocs while
Paige Gallentine (Fenton, Mich.) and
Makenzie Jordan (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) added 14 and 11.
