ABOUT CHATTANOOGA BASKETBALL
Â
CHATTANOOGA---There is one roster loss in the Chattanooga Mocs main 8-player rotation for the 2020-21 season, and it's a big one; literally. Starting forward
Stefan Kenic is foregoing his COVID year of eligibility to head to the professional ranks in Europe.
So this is where we'll start our season in review player breakdown. Last week, the overview was
posted here. The Mocs overcame a lot just to get through the 26-game campaign with Kenic playing a key role as the only student-athlete to start every contest.
Â
Kenic ranked among the team leaders in several categories. He was third in scoring (11.8 ppg), third in 3pt percentage (37.4%) and first at the free throw line (87.5%). That included some spectacular performances.
Â
He was a central figure in two incredible comeback efforts. First was the school-record tying return from 19 down in the first half of the 83-80 win over Mercer and later the dramatic 12-point comeback with 3:30 to go to capture an overtime triumph against Western Carolina.
Â
The Bears downing was especially special for the native of Belgrade, Serbia. He scored his 1,000th collegiate point ending with 1,117 for his career, 500 at Chattanooga and 617 with Cleveland State.
Â
Â
Stef scored a career-high 27 that night. That lasted all of 35 days before he topped it with an unreal performance. A historic effort in another game the Mocs utilized their Roundhouse magic to claim victory when it seemed all was lost.
Â
Down 75-63 to Western Carolina with time ticking away, Kenic drilled a three with 3:23 to go kickstart a 12-0 dash to the finish before a dominating bonus five minutes carried the Mocs to victory. The big man scored 29 on the night hitting a school-record 7-7 from 3pt range in the contest bettering the 6-6 mark of Gary Robb and Brandon Born in the '90s.
