As we countdown to the Mocs' season opener against UAB on 19 at the UTC Sports Complex, we're getting to know who to watch this season.
Â
Grace Klippenstein immediately took a break after the semester ended in April and went to New York City and Florida with friends. She then spent the summer as a Project Management intern in Nashville. But don't worry. She still took trips on the weekend!
Â
She wears the number six because is represents her position as a defensive midfielder. "Also, my number from club soccer when I was in high school was 42, but UTC didn't have that number so I just added them together and got "6".
Â
She started playing soccer when she was old enough to play in the little YMCA League. "Although I was absolutely terrible." Before matches she listens to a very eclectic mix. "I've got some rock, slow R&B, old classics, EDM, rap, country, soul, you name it." However, "The Spins" by Mac Miller is the go to song for her and teammate Julia.
Â
She grew up playing basketball and softball, but "I enjoy a competitive ping pong match when available." Her favorite sports are hockey and gymnastics. "And who doesn't like a good curling match?"
Â
While she started playing soccer because it had a lot of running and she needed to get in shape in middle school, it stands out for her because of the strong friendships she has made. "Soccer is such a good way for me to exert my energy and passion to compete and play a sport at a high level."
Â
On thing she wants everyone to know about her: "Most of my teammates probably think I'm 5-3 when in reality I'm 5-3 ¾. Common mistake."
