ABOUT CHATTANOOGA GOLF
CHATTANOOGA---The Chattanooga Mocs began preparation this week for the 2021-22 golf season. It features a 10-tournament regular season leading into the Southern Conference Championships and hopefully, a return to NCAA postseason play.
"This is an ambitious schedule," Coach
Mark Guhne shared this week. "We welcome a field at the Honors in September that can only be rivaled by NCAA Match Play (final 8 teams playing for the national championship). We're headed back to some familiar locations along with an exciting trip to Puerto Rico in late February.
"Ideally, you put yourself in position to play your best golf in April and May."
For the first time in a long while, the Mocs have two home events.
"We could not be more appreciative of the Honors and Black Creek hosting collegiate events here," Guhne added. "Our program is envied for the course we play day-in, day-out and to get to show that off further hosting events at two of the jewels of our area is special."
Everything starts the second weekend of September at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. It's hosted by LA Tech in Ruston, La. That's followed by the Scenic City Collegiate at the Honors (Sept. 20-21) before defending the title at the J.T. Poston Invite (Oct. 3-5).
ETSU's Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate (Oct. 10-12) is next before the Battle at Black Creek Oct. 25-26. The spring begins at the Wexford Intercollegiate (Feb. 21-22) before jetting to the Dorado Beach Collegiate (Feb. 27-Mar. 1) in Puerto Rico. After a two-plus week break, the Mocs head to the Linger Longer Invitation in east Georgia (Mar. 20-22).
April opens with the Augusta Haskins Award Invite (Apr. 2-3) and the Mossy Oak Collegiate (Apr. 11-12). Postseason starts Apr. 22-24 with the Southern Conference Championships headed back to Reynolds Lake Oconee in Eatonton, Ga.
