GREENSBORO, N.C. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's tennis team scored five wins, four on doubles and one in singles, on the first day of action in the 2021 fall season as they competed in the UNCG Invite held in Greensboro, N.C., on Friday.
In doubles, the combo of
Tomas Rodriguez and
Peyton Gatti picked up a 7-6 (4) win over Tennessee Tech's Evzin Hollis and Jun Sasagawa. Sasagawa, a transfer, went 17-5 as a singles player in 2020 and led the team in wins at Hofstra.
Chattanooga also saw the combo of
Simon Labbe and
Jordan McClure earn a convincing 6-2 win over TTU's Rafael Tosetto and Carlos Vicente. The team picked up two additional doubles victories over Radford.
Kerim Hyatt and Labbe played to a 6-4 victory over Demis Taramonlis and Andres Silva while
Quinten Nevenhoven and
Ryan Mudre battled for a 6-4 win over Robert Hagen and Aditya Balsekar.
The lone singles victory of the day was captured by Rodriguez, who pulled out a 6-3, 6-4 decision in the No. 1 slot against TTU's Carlos Vicente. Vicente was named the 2019 OVC Rookie of the Year and also earned All-OVC First Team honors.
Tomorrow's action in the UNCG Invite will pick up at 10:00 a.m. ET. Results from the event will be made available after the conclusion of play on GoMocs.com.
